In its latest timepieces, the Maurice Lacroix Les Classiques collection concentrates all the elegance of traditional watchmaking and uses contemporary design to emphasize its refinement. As a tribute to the interpretative talent of its designers and to the know-how of the brand, the 2010 vintage takes another look at aesthetics and technology in a timeless, and quite simply watchmaking, spirit.
This aesthetic moderation is equalled only by the complexity of their mechanisms. These watchmaking complications have constituted the spearhead of the brand since the 1980s. Apart from function, it is the undisputed mastery and authenticity of Maurice Lacroix that distill their authority into the machinery of these timepieces.
In a 21st century with leanings towards the chaotic, the ephemeral and the effervescent, self-discipline is the exception rather than the rule. The self-discipline taught by Les Classiques 2010 is a philosophy and a determination to get to essentials, to show even better the splendour of time. Designed for people who prefer classicism to lavishness, they are the faithful reflection of the refinement and authenticity of the brand.
The moon holds no secrets from the Collection Les Classiques. The new Phases de Lune Automatique timepiece shows the Queen of the Night progressing slowly across a vaulted window at 6 o’clock.
Indicating the phases of the moon is a part of the classical repertoire of watchmaking complications. While some may hold that it is the most poetic watchmaking complication, here it adopts a smart, traditional design to reveal the lunar cycle, lasting 29 days and 12 hours.
Driven by the self-winding ML 37 mechanical caliber, the lunar months are displayed between the day-of-the-week and month indications on a disk at 12 o'clock and that of the date, shown by a center hand.
Black or silvered, the dial blends symmetry and rigor of design. Caressed by the hands highlighted with Superluminova, it resorts to esthetic perfection to refine and light up time. The 40 mm diameter case, water-resistant to 30 meters, is available in stainless steel or in a two-coloured version with an 18-carat gold bezel. A combination which is harmoniously echoed in the finish of the dial, the hands and the bracelet that goes with it. The collection is completed by a ladies’ model, with its diamond-studded bezel delicately bordering the mother-of-pearl face.
